Midnight cravings
One of my passions is eating… and then I got into cooking since I had to make the food that I like eating. To most of you who don’t know me that well, I’m really a cheapskate… Seriously! But… I’m also a big spender. The irony.
Anyway, for the past few weeks, I’ve tried to eat healthy food. So it’s brown rice for me, a lot of veggies and whenever possible, sandwiches for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Of course it would be crazy to deprive yourself of eating the food you like to eat so there has to be some days wherein you indulge.
MIDNIGHT CRAVINGS?
I’ve read before that eating midnight snacks is not healthy at all. It screws up your metabolism and causes your body to store much unwanted fat. So what do you do when youu suddenly get those midnight cravings? I for one am a night person. I usually sleep way past midnight and I really can’t help but look around for food to eat. I end up grabbing a bag of Doritos (or I’d go out to the nearest 7-11 and get myself one) or cook some bacon, spam or easy to cook breakfast food… all of which are “unhealthy” by the way because of the oil or grease they are cooked in.
Lo and behold, I found my answer in one of the boxes lying around the house. I found this inside… can you tell me what it is?
It looks a lot like a spaceship.
Actually, it’s a popcorn maker
Basically, you plug in the appliance, pre-heat the plate, put in some olive oil (healthy
), wait for “white smoke” to start coming out then put in the popcorn kernels. You have the the option of putting butter on top to all it to drip into the popcorn underneath. Here is a video clip of the popcorn maker in action
Popcorn is basically air-popped corn kernels and has very minimal calorie content. Things change though when you add butter or salt or cheese. Below is the nutritional information on popcorn [from http://caloriecount.about.com]
So is popcorn a healthy option? I hope so… for my sake. Hehe
