As regards the timing chips, we would have used them if they were not too expensive. Since these chips are imported, they are too expensive for a community race such as the Dean’s Cup. By using timing chips, we would actually end up doing the exact opposite, due to the high cost. Unless there would be a sponsor to cover the costs, the running community might be more discouraged to participate since the registration fee would be significantly higher, around P700 per person.

If we do get enough sponsors next year or the cost of the chips go down, who knows, we might be using them sooner than you think!

Anyway, I had a good time during the fun run. Kudos to the organizers. More fun runs please. But next time, I hope that the fun run organizers will think about using timing chips to make the event more encouraging to the running community.

Hello! The 5k run is at 6am while the 2.2k walk is at 6:30am. You can register for the 5k walk and then accompany your kids for the 2.2k walk, but your child will have to register. For more details, you can email me directly at eric@run4change.com or uplawtri@run4change.com
