6km easy run, some thoughts on shoes, and relaxing

I’ve been negligent again of my running schedule. Well, I couldn’t help it. I’ve just been soo preoccupied with a lot of things lately. I missed a lot of homework like my 10k run last Thursday, my 4×800m for Friday, 16km easy run for Saturday and who knows what I missed out on yesterday. So today, after another 5 day break from running, I went out for a run… I needed it for sanity’s sake.

I tried to do the 4×800m earlier in my village using a route that has more or less a known distance but my legs and lungs did not cooperate… out of shape? Maybe… we’ll find out after the Adidas KOTR.

There is only one shoe

…for my feet. Well, kinda. When I tried the Nike Lunar almost two months ago, my feet didn’t like them. Then different parts of my foot started to hurt. So I went back to my Adidas Supernova which I’ve been using sicne February of this year. It has already run 650km (probably even more) and I guess I’ll be retiring it soon. I looked at the sole and the heavy wear areas are already “pud pud” such as the mid foot and the outer heel (which makes me a pronator, or is it a supinator?)

I tried wearing my old Aisics shoes today during the warmup since its sole is not yet worn out like my Adidas, even though I’ve been using it prior to the Adidas during that phase of my running life wherein I thought I was running fast at 7mins/km (hahaha!). After warmup, I ended up changing shoes again.

My dad is leaving for San Francisco this Saturday and I might ask him to buy me shoes there. I’ll ask him to look up the Air Equalon 3, which accroding to Hector Yuson of Nike, is the “Mother of all Stability Shoes”. My only apprehension is… are my feet ready for a new pair of shoes?

My run today…

I had initially done a 1.2km warmup, then tried to do 4×800m runs but I failed… So I went back home. BUT I decided that I can’t give up that easily. So I went back out to run. Then I’m not sure where it came from but it was either Patrick or Wayne or other people who commented here on my site that I should just enjoy my run. I’m not supposed to be too fixated on time, but should focus more on form. I shouldn’t think whether I’m going faster or that I’m improving. Then I remembered an email that I got from one of my mailing lists. It was an article by Gina Kolata (yes, she’s a real person, for those green-minded people! :P ) that relaxed is the best way to go. So I did 3 rounds of a regular village route that I take and ran in more relaxed. I think I enjoyed my run more.

Lap 1 (2km)        - 12:45.84
Lap 2                  - 12:44.68
Lap 3                  - 12:37.43

TOTAL (~6km) - 38:07.95

In the end, maybe consistency is a good way to go? (But during races, I try to do a negative split :) )
