Mostly Cloudy with Scattered Rains and Thunderstorms AND 13.2k Easy Run

It’s going to be mostly cloudy with scattered rains and thunderstorms until August 5. Well, that’s according to PAG-ASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical services administration). That definitely going to put a “cloud” to my training. I hope it doesn’t rain too hard also for those competing in the o3 in Subic and those running this Sunday at the Manila Milo Marathon.

I don’t mind a slight drizzle here and there but I’m that fond of running soaking wet. The last time I ran in the rain was during One La Salle. It wasn’t fun at all for me. With every step I took, I could hear a squishing sound. Maybe I ought to run with a raincoat or something.

13.2KM Easy Run in the Rain

Last night, I decided to run despite the slight drizzle. No way was I going to be penalized P500 (self-imposed) for not running! After 2kms, it started to rain, and it got harder and harder. I found myself running in the rain. There was something different about last night that made me enjoy running in the rain, despite my One La Salle DNF experience. Feel na feel ko tumakbo and it seemed as if I was a detrermined athlete trainig hard for something. Parang Rocky. Haha!

I was supposed to do only a 10km easy run as directed by Coach to recover from the previous day’s stairs training but I ended up doing 13.2km. If you’re wondering why it’s 13.2, it’s because on round of the UP Academic Oval is 2.2km and I did 6 rounds. One loop was warm-up, followed by an easy run pace of 6 mins 30 secs. Unconsciously, I already know how 6:30 pace feels like. Look at the table below, I was able to maintain an almost constant pace all throughout, with the exception of the last round wherein I sped up.

Post-Run Dinner @ TRINOMA

After running, I took a quick shower then headed off to Trinoma to meet up with Anna, a good friend who’ll be leaving for the US to pursue her masters. She’s the one I usually have breakfast with after training at ULTRA since she just lives nearby at Valle Verde. We had bagoong rice, grilled squid, chicken inasal and a lot of iced tea refills. Hehe… supposedly we were going to drink but it’s something I haven’t been looking for lately, drinking. I also got to meet up with Lito and finally got my Happy Feet Singlet. :)

I got home at around 1am already… I doubt I’ll be able to wake up for training the following day

Too Tired and Sleepy to Get Out of Bed.

True enough, I was too tired and sleepy to get out of bed despite the fact that I got to wake up at 5:30am. I had imagined it was raining hard outside so after I got out of bed and looked outside my room to see if it was raining, I think I imagined strong rains so I climbed back into bed.

I remembered what Coach John told me, if you’re too tired to run, don’t. Kung puyat ka, wag ka tatakbo. So I listened to his advise. I’ll probably be running later around 3pm at ULTRA or at Ateneo (Moro Lorenzo) if it’s raining hard. Again, NO WAY AM I GETTING PENALIZED P500. Haha… Well, it’s win-win for me since the P500 will just go to my 1,000k incentive fund… which will still accrue to my benefit. It’s just a hassle to lose P500 from your wallet due to forced savings.

  1. Hi Passion Runer! I’m one of the new members of Happy Feet - I was supposed to run in U.P. last night too… But, I was afraid of getting sick or injured before the Milo 10K this Sunday… I went around Trinoma instead!
