Out of shape… and a deathwish
Out of shape…
I finally got to train yesterday at ULTRA. Boy, was I totally out of shape. What would be a normal day of drills and other exercises turned out to be one heck of a workout. I felt as if it were my first time to train. I did 5 rounds (5×400m) as warm up, followed by some drills. In the middle of my drills, I found myself out of breath! WHAT WAS HAPPENING?! Seriously, I felt that I was a newbie… or at least my body felt that way. I had to stop halfway through the drills to catch my breath. I guess it was my body readjusting itself after being “dormant” for almost 3 weeks, with the exception of the Rush to Infinity and one day of training for the each of the weeks that went by so quickly. In fact, while I was doing my warm up, the muscles surrounding my shins started to throb, as well as my calves. The last time that happened was when I was starting.
I guess all these are signs that I’m starting all over again and my body has to re-learn almost everything. Even before coming back to training, I had already felt that I was getting out of shape. There were signs… First, my pants started to tighten. Second, I would not be able to finish my 5k runs [check my previous posts/rants
]. Third, I’d have aching muscles. Annie tells me it’s probably stress.
Imagine, yesterday, out of nowhere, my neck muscles suddenly locked and I found myself with a stiff neck. It just happened instantaneously and it’s one of the worst things that can happen. It was so bad that I couldn’t turn my head to the left or right. I had to turn my entire torso to be able to look in either direction. Other than that, I couldn’t tilt my head down to read, nor tilt it up earlier this morning to shave. Good thing that it went away by the time I got to school.
…and the deathwish.
I signed up for TikTakBo today and will be doing my longest run… 18k. Though Rio has asked me to do long runs, 15-16k, I never really did them… Haha… Ooops… For sure he’ll be reading this and he’ll be shaking his head in disappointment. Hehe, sorry Coach… pasaway ako. Hopefully, I’ll be able to make good time. Being out of shape and going on my longest run… it is definitely a deathwish. Good thing that I’m familiar with all the places in UP that I can have mental maps as to the remaining distance I’ll have to cover, if ever I end up wanting to quit.
Oh, another reason I’m doing the 18k? I want to lose the extra weight that I’ve put on. hehe

average athletes (that’s us!
) usually lose our fitness if we’re inactive for 21 days. I’d suggest you run the 18 kms just at long run pace, that’s when you’re breathing a little heavy but still well enough to maintain a conversation. That’s the pace where most fat is burned
Good luck on the race! I’ll be at Manila running the half this Sunday

Hey Joe!
Hindi ka na average… hehe! Or if you’re average, I’m below average
I want to be able to reach your times for 10k.
I’m excited for my 18k tomorrow. I really need to get myself a watch. Sana kaya na ng bulsa ko ang Garmin. Hehehe
