DocFit: Takbo Para Sa Puso

Another PR for PR at DocFit! Official time of 00:57:49 with an average pace of 5mins 47 secs per kilometer. [Official Race Results Available here or visit http://runrio.com] I was able to shave off more than 2 minutes from my previous record of 00:59:57 at Runnex@25. I thought that I would do poorly since I wasn’t able to train much this week due to a bad cold after my Tagaytay trip. In fact, I was only able to run 5.5k last Friday with a time of 00:30:18. Other than that, no other runs. I did two sets of drills though last Thursday, as well as 2 sets of core exercises. I guess the better time can be attributed to several things:

  • forced rest/recovery this week
  • I only stopped at the last 2 water stations. I made it a point not to drink at any of the water stations before the 5km mark. My first pitstop was at the 2nd pass at University Avenue U-turn. Then after that was after the 2nd u-turn where they give out the pieces of string.
  • Instead of drinking the night before… I drank the afternoon before. Hahaha! So I moved it 6 hours earlier. I mean, if you can’t avoid drinking, at least have some recovery time.
  • I arrived earlier than usual and was able to warm up before the race. I did a moderately paced jog around the University Theater and also some stretching.
  • I had mastered the route and knew where I should gain speed, recover and then do the final burst.

Things that I like about this race:

  • the water stations gave out cold drinks. Thanks Coach for listening to my feedback! :D
  • less people (around 600 participants only)
  • the weather was perfect. It wasn’t hot nor humid. It was just right.
  • there were kilometer markers
  • Freebies :D

Also, after the race I got to take some photos with Jaymie aka The Bull Runner and also with Marga aka Transition-Zero. Actually, Jaymie and I got to run side by side as she was doing the last km of her 5km. I caught up to her and said, “Hi Jaymie!” and she goes, “Oh! Hi! Di kita nakilala!” I also got to see Joe aka The Loony Runner and of course, MGen. Jovenal Narcise, aka the Bald Runner.

I’m like the photos that my Brod Lemuel took. Lemuel is also the nephew of Bald Runner. As he was taking the photos, I suddenly felt my form getting better! hahaha! Pasikat ;) [Check out the Gallery]

After the run, my Brods and I had breakfast at Pancake House. I rewarded myself with a Jumbo House Burger. Good thing that they had no buns so they offered me whole wheat bread instead. Whew! :)

    We should be the one congratulating you for placing 1st in the 10k Womens-MD Category! Woohoo! I guess our training with Rio is really paying off :D
