Battle scars
I’m sure a lot of you who have lost or gained a lot of weight also have these. I’m also sure that a lot of women have their fair share of battle scars or what most people refer to as “stretch marks.”
My sister is a dermatologist and I’ve already ask her how to get rid of them. According to her, there really isn’t any cure to stretch marks; however there are people who try laser treatment for the discoloration. Others use chemical peels and the like. Some resort to lotions and creams.
Hopefully, there will come a time when people can rid themselves of unsightly “battle scars.” I’m still waiting for that day. Hehe!
Stretch marks or striae, as they are called in dermatology, are a form of scarring on the skin with a silvery white hue. They are caused by tearing of the dermis, and over time can diminish but not disappear completely. Stretch marks are the result of the rapid stretching of the skin associated with rapid growth (common in puberty) or weight gain (e.g. pregnancy). Although the skin is fairly elastic, rapid stretching of the skin will leave permanent stretch marks.[1] Stretch marks are generally associated with pregnancy, obesity, and can develop during rapid muscle growth from regular exercise. Stretch marks are also referred to as striae distensae. Medical terminology for these kinds of markings include striae atrophicae, vergetures, striae cutis distensae, striae gravidarum (in cases where it is caused by pregnancy), lineae atrophicae, striae distensae, linea albicante, or simply striae.

A friend of mine who lost a lot of weight called them “success marks” instead of stretch marks :O) Okey lang yan… almost everyone has them. And, being true to its new name… they are overt signs of your successes in reaching your goal!

one way to minimise stretch err battle scars is gradual weight loss. pagmasyado mabilis your weightloss the skin doesnt have time to retract. so nice and steady lang. hmm…pero wag OA sa cheat days ha!

Onga! Pero alam mo, almost 1 month na ako na no progress sa weight loss… I just hope I’m gaining muscle and losing fat kaya off-set sila sa weight ko.
The past 5 days have been BAD cheat days for me. Haha… NOTE TO SELF: Drinking beer is not considered Carbo loading… hahaha! Nakakamiss din pala… pero of course, always in moderation.

here sa gym we have a machine called Tanita, it measures body fat % and muscle % so its easy for me to track my progress. if you dont have one in your gym, the machine they have at Mercury Drug Store (meron sa Trinoma and GB1) is pretty accurate in measuring body fat also. its only 5 or 10 pesos yata. dont worry the machine doesnt announce to the public your weight. it gives you a print out of your stats.

Sounds like a cool machine. Is it big? What I do is kinda old school, but I think is more accurate… skin fold measurements using calipers
the think that they use to pinch your fat… so you also get to see what areas are “pinch-able” hehe

yeah! I use that machine sa mercury. Para lang siyang malaking weighing scale… hmmm, para sa’yo na malaki na ang ipinayat, di na gaanong accurate yung calipers… kasi balat na lang napipinch mo, wala ng taba! hehehe

Haha, madami pa ang ma-pinch nila sa kin… looks can be deceiving. Haha! But thanks, at least it makes me feel thinner
Hey joe, I saw your site, impressive ang weight loss story mo. And I can really see the difference!
