The sacrifices you have to make for those you love
There are certain sacrifices that you have to make for those that you love… like Reese’s Buttercup! I love these little suckers but then they’re… FATTENING
I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been watching my weight and have been really conscious of the things that I eat. So every time I feel the urge or impulse to eat sweets or have a craving, I go and get myself some fruits. My trick is to always, as in ALWAYS, have a basket of fruits in our dining table. I just pick one to satisfy my craving. I either get a banana, mango, or an orange. Other times, I choose 4 fruits and end up making myself a fruit shake. However, there are times when I’ve run out of fruits and that’s when I end up getting 3 pieces of those lovable Reese’s Buttercup Mini’s (I’ve learned to buy things in small packages, since they get to satisfy whatever craving you have, but with less calories. It’s something like a cheat).
Banana Running is right. She says that I should have a cheat day or something. Well, this is what I do when I end up cheating and giving in to temptation. I run an extra kilometer or so. Several days ago, I was really craving for something sweet. I got 3 buttercups and decided to do a PR for my first time 6km training run. Well, I did do it in 5mins 40secs per km. Not bad. It was definitely better than my normal race times [see PR sets a PR in Runnex@25]. So when you feel like “cheating,” make that sacrifice… either let go or make up (for it). Haha! Sounds like love advice

Try having one junk day. Your body can only absorb a certain percentage of everything in a day. I used to be a fitness/bodybuilder during my younger days. My mentor who’s a competitor taught me this aside from the usual diet/workout routine.
Try Oolong tea, those leaves really work. Bald Runner pointed you out to me last sunday. Usap tayo next time, share with you more diet tips. So far, Im down to 169 from 182 (April 2008). Im diagnosed to have high sugar (pre diabetis).
Good luck, great 10 mins chopped off your time. Di biro ganyan improvement.

hmmm… I think you should make your cheat days a reward for a good run. Kasi by making the consequence of “cheating” a longer run… I think you’ll end up cheating more! Kasi that will be your reason to run longer –> which actually is a reward for someone who loves running
With regards to the craving for sweets, I suggest you skip the fruits (they may be healthier than candy, but still too sugary). When you have a craving, eat a salad na lang, with a low sugar dressing. This will eventually help curb those “sweet cravings”

Marga: Hahaha! I’d have to agree! Pero Choco Mucho’s are bad ata… hehe… too much saturated fat
I now appreciate the small packets, mini’s or fun sizes that chocolates now come in. It’s just big enough to get rid of my craving, and small enough not to cause too much harm! hehe
Markfb: Yeah, I’ve decided not to be too strict. It’s hard depriving yourself of something… you just end up frustrated or binging.
Oolong tea? I think we have that. Do you use tea bags or the one that comes in blocks or tea leaves. They say that the latter is better since the tea bags are already processed. I don’t know know if there is any truth to it.
Congrats on losing 13 lbs. I also lost almost the same, 12lbs, but it was from March-April
I wonder what my weight is now. I think I need to bulk up again ‘coz I’ve been neglecting my upper body. Wala na ako ginawa kundi tumakbo. I need to do some strength training also.
Loonyrunner: Yeah, I usually end up eating more Reese’s peanut butter cups after a race. hehe… Also, I eat rice after running but normally, it’s whole wheat bread for me or pasta.
About switching to salad…. nah
Hehe! Fruits pa rin ako or shake… their sugar content isn’t bad since they’re simple sugars. Other times, I munch on muesli and other grains.

Well they taste oh so good, and comes in pretty cheap, so it’s still goooooooooooddddd.
Another lovely cheap treat would be the white Goya choco bar. Can’t get enough white chocolate!
Good for you na you can eat fruits. I can’t stand fruits unless it’s mixed with milk and in shake form. Eating fruits can be such a chore.

The leaves, those in the bags are substandard. Well that’s usually the case. I used to drink Sencha Green Tea (Japan) but the ones in the supermarket now is not the same as the ones I used to buy at Cartimar. There’s a jap grocery there where restaurants get their ingredients from. Mura doon for almost anything japanese.
Oolong so far has been effective, even curbs the appetite too. There’s not much info about it in English so I just trust those that gave them to me, my mom.
Since the year 2000, this is my first time to go below 170. Yahoo! All time high during my sedentary gimmick days was almost 200.

Hmmm… I actually want to try the real tea with leaves. I just don’t know where to go. What I do is I just use the one in the bags, then I put honey, then ice… Tada! Iced tea, less all the sugar that they put in C2 and Nestea.

Instead of sugar, use the new sweetener for diabetics. I just cant remember it now. I dont put anything in my tea. Just to be clear, the oolong tea I use are real leaves. They’re from Taiwan, comes in a green box. Its in chinese though, tancha method. I use Starbuks Coffee press for the tea, works fine. Its been 2 months without coffee and Im ok.
