Getting ready for training

I’m readying myself for later’s training at 6am at ULTRA. Hopefully, I get to see The Bull Runner there but I think she goes to ULTRA on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I’ve started my “official” training with Coach Rio of the UP Track & Field Varsity. Last Wednesday, he showed me some drills and made me do an interval workout. I was surprised that the entire session took only about an hour and I didn’t believe him when he said that “yan muna gagawin natin ha? For sure sasakit mga muscles mo bukas…”

He was right! My quads and my hams tightened by late afternoon of the same day. He told me to do a long run the following day, which I did… I did around 10km. So later, I’m guessing more drills and interval workout again. This is to help me do better than a laughable 7mins/km. Well, according to Coach, that pace is good for long distance. At least I don’t have any problems with endurance as I can last for more than an hour. What we’ll be working on is speed and strength.

  1. i think its great that you got a coach to get you on the right track. mahirap na to get bad habits along the way. pagtiyagaan mo lang ang training and i’m sure you’ll reap the benefits later on. keep on running!!!

  2. Onga, it was Coach Rio who told me to go to ULTRA when he’s there training the UP Track Team… He literally told me to “get on track” [pun intended] ;). Hehe! I know… well, I hope to get this thing going long enough. Come school time, I’ll be swamped again with readings… late, long nights again.

Actually, running has seemed to become my outlet from Law School… when I get tired of reading cases or codals, I just put everything down and start to run. Sabi nga ni Ben, multi-tasking daw ako coz I told him that I try to memorize stuff while I run. Hehe!

My personal goal now is to get to 170lbs and get a really lean body. Right now, I’m a lot thinner than i used to be but kulang pa rin. And I also want to be able to do a 5min/km pace. For a change, gusto ko naman sabayan sina Bull Runner at Bald Runner! Hehe!
